Belly...When I hear this word it straight comes to mind to add jelly to it. Jelly belly, reminds me of these color jelly sweets. This sounds very funny if that doesn't apply to us. Word 'belly' has a lot of synonims in English language like stomach, abdomen, gut, tummy, venter. Can anyone tell me why? In my language apart from jargons and slang we have just one word for it.
Modern life makes a lot of people "die" for flat stomach. It seems like both men and women are obsessed with flat tummy as it associates with health and fitness and make them feel more appealing to the opposite sex. For men, it's having 'six-pack', where each individual muscle can be seen. For women getting rid of extra fat,yet having elastic and fit skin would be quite enough. I read somewhere that, in general, men count calorie intake not less than women if not more. That's surprised me, but after some observing I noticed that to some extend this is true. Especially this is the case, when their stomach is just too far from flat.
Some women have peircing in their navel. It looked really attractive and unusual at its early stage. But these days it's too common to get some extra attention. Women with flat tummy (actually a lot of jelly belly beauties as well) like to wear short tops to underline their waist. If they are really slim, then it does make men turn their heads, which boost self-confidence and make up a mood for some flirting. Another very effective way that some women use to attract men's attention - is belly dancing. Actually this is what other women like to watch as well. I always watch with amazement when somebody belly dances. This is very popular in east asian countries. Maybe there is a lot of temptation to watch open belly dancing while maintaining eye contact, when the rest of the body and face is covered with clothes?
Another thing is corsets. Just few years ago I found out that these days some women still wear them, especially when going out for some special events. I thought these are some recalls from the past or just used on stage. But it seems like I still don't know a lot of things.
I also read years ago that men actually don't like too flat tummy in women. It's natural for women to have some fat in belly area (you know survival thing) and actually slightly prominent tummy looks more appealing for them. Well it's just the preferences...
Pushing out has some meanings as well. Sticking out tummy in no way shows the desire to appeal attractive and can be a counter-reactive move. This is more common in groups of men, where there is no judging involved, but can actually contribute to male bonding (some 'drinks', loud discussions and jokes can be helpful).
We may stick out tummy, when we feel uncomfortably close to somebody else.
Some other body language signals may involve touching the tummy. It usually associates with some kind of discomfort. We may stroke it when in pain or having some digestive problems. We may rub or hold it when we feel anxious. The gut is really vulnarable to attack, so holding hands across it might be a defensive reaction when somebody is under threat.
I hope you liked yesterday's chewing quiz. Our mouth tells a lot through body language, sending signals while we are eating, breating, smiling, laughing, talking or staying quiet.
When we are eating our mouth determines our manners at most.If a person is well-mannered,they'd open their mouth as little as possible while putting a moderate amount of food. They would chew properly each mouthful with their mouth closed. And they never talk when they eat.But there are a lot of people who gobble large mouthfuls and open mouth widely while they chew and talk at the same time. Some people eat noisily, expressing the pleasure they experience from consuming the food. But this not always mean that the person is bad-mannered.This simply might mean their culture background. In some places eating noisily is not just allowed, but a preferred thing to do. Some people chew very slowly, probably chewing some ideas at the same time.
The same thing with drinking. How we drink may determine how well-mannered we are.A polite person would normaly sip small amount of liquid and swallow it noiselessly. On the other hand this may be done with loud glugging. Some times it is followed with burping, which is disgusting in most cultures, but at some it is again, as with food, is not just allowed, but desirable. Some people like slooshing the drink around their mouth and this can mean that they are thinking or deciding something.
Sometimes we cover our mouth with a hand in different situations. That may mean that the person wants to cover their yawn, because exposing the inside mouth is not polite. We may also cover mouth, when surprised. But covering mouth can tell that the person tries to hide real emotions, when whatever they say is not truth.
What about talking? Mouth can speak two languages at the same time. That is have verbal and nonverbal communication taking place at one moment. A person with auditory preferences usually choose words carefully and form sentences correctly. They tend to speak slowly.Visual thinkers usually speak fast as they try to follow their internal pictures. The way people open their mouth can tell something about their character. When people use their mouth little while talking, sort of mumbling, that can mean unwillingness to speak. The reasons for that might be that the person is shy or is afraid to betray themselves.People, who move their mouth a lot during conversation are sending undoubtful signal that they are there to speak and you are to listen.
How we breath can tell something about person as well.A frightened or angry person would often open their mouth to inhale extra air.We may also start to breath faster.Taking a deep gulp of air often indicates a person who is tired or bored.A short, but deep and exhaling sigh usually means sadness or boredom. A sequent and short inhalation sort of silent sobs can indicate deep and suppressed sadness. When people are relaxed or meditating they take a long deep and slow breath. They may also close their eyes.
Mouth has a good supportive team in face of lips, tongue and teeth. That's other topics I would be covering in the next few days.Stay tuned.
Improving Communication in Business and Personal Life
Laughter is such a positive emotion. This way body language signals that the person is harmless and friendly. It shows person's happiness and satisfaction. When laughing is shared it doubles the joy.It can be infectious.Laughter rarely is very long, but can be really strong involving a lot of muscles.Have you ever felt pain in belly area after a really loud laugh? It equals to some press exersises and is very healthy for emotional and physical state. And yes,April Braswell, some experts believe that psychological and physical benefits of laughter give up only to psychological and physical benefits of sex.Laugh is a relief.
There are few types of laugh: belly laugh, which is the most open and really trustworthy, the most genuine; cackling is loud and usually used as a negative gesture to laugh at somebody's failure and some in between laughs like chuckling, sniggering and snorting.
Laugh differs from person to person.Louder laugh is more common for self-confident people.Loud laugh can also be used to attract attention.Women and men respond to jokes differently. But in cultures laugh has the same expression.
Laugh is a positive sign of nonverbal communication. We can laugh before we can talk.Researches show that babies can start laugh as early as being 17 days old. They are happy to communicate and share their happiness with others.
Isn't it amazing?
